What makes the US-India Artificial Intelligence Initiative newsworthy?

The goal of the United States-India Artificial Intelligence (USIAI) program is to improve the two nations’ technology ties. During the event’s curtain-raiser, DST secretary Ashutosh Sharma discussed the significance of strengthening the science and technology cooperation between India and the US. According to him, this would also contribute to resolving issues for both nations and removing obstacles to development.

The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) has established a network of 25 technological centers that function as a triple helix to promote and deploy artificial intelligence research and technology nationwide, according to Sharma’s additional statement.

Details of the US-India Artificial Intelligence Initiative

It was started in March 2000 and is an initiative of the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF).

The nodal departments for IUSSTF are the Department of Science & Technology (DST), the Government of India, and the Department of State of the United States.

USIAI would concentrate on AI collaboration in important fields that are top concerns for both India and the US.

Importance of the US-India Artificial Intelligence Initiative

Through collaboration, there will be a chance to talk about the state of AI and the difficulties involved in creating an AI workforce.

USIAI would support AI cooperation in crucial areas like healthcare, smart cities, materials, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing that are beneficial for both countries. According to the official statement, “USIAI will serve as a platform to discuss opportunities, challenges, and barriers for bilateral AI research and development collaboration, enable AI innovation, help share ideas for developing an AI workforce, and recommend modes and mechanisms for catalyzing partnerships.”

India is set up and ready

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (NITI Ayog) National AI Portal and National AI Plan were recently introduced in India.

It has also expanded AI across several industries, including commerce, healthcare, agriculture, and education.

Additionally, MyGov Corona Helpdesk Chatbot won two categories at CogX 2020: Top Innovation in Covid-19: The People’s Choice and Society Covid-19 All-Around Champion.

The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) has India among its members.

The use of artificial intelligence has increased in India by 45%, more than any other country.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the NITI Aayog collaborated to organize Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020 (RAISE 2020).
