36,000 houses can be powered annually by China’s largest wind turbine

The largest and most potent wind turbine in the world, which can power 36,000 homes annually, was just implemented in China. According to China Three Gorges Corporation, the wind turbine was successfully installed on July 19 in the company’s offshore wind farm close to the province of Fujian.

The MySE-16-260 16-megawatt turbine is situated at an offshore wind farm close to the province of Fujian. The turbine is taller than a 67-story structure and is the largest in the world. The MySE-16-260 wind turbine can produce 16 MW of power. The 152-meter height of this mega turbine is where it is mounted. Its length is equivalent to two football fields. Each of the 123-meter-long blades is 54 tons in weight. It boasts rotor blades twice the size of a football field in diameter.

The rotor sweeps an area of 50,000 square meters in size, equating to a little around 540,000 square feet. According to Three Gorges Corporation, the wind turbine can provide 36,000 houses for three members with electricity annually.

Additionally, Mingyang Smart Energy, the turbine’s creator, has already guaranteed that the device can survive extremely high wind speeds up to 79.8 meters per second. So, this turbine was tested when Cyclone Talim reached East Asia recently.
