Varanasi has completed all the necessary arrangements for hosting the G20 events, which will be held for three days starting from Monday (April 17). As per an official statement, the Agriculture Working Group meeting will take place from April 17 to 19, in which representatives from 20 leading countries and other partner countries will participate. The Hotel Taj will be the main venue for the meeting, followed by a ‘Kashi tour’ for the guests.
Around 80 foreign delegates from G20 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, are expected to attend the events in Varanasi.
The summit’s opening day will feature the Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) 2023, which will focus on Sustainable Agrifood System for Healthy People and Planet. The first session will address the Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Food Security and Nutrition, while the second session will cover ‘Resilient Agri-Food System.’ Later in the evening, the G20 delegates will attend the world-renowned Ganga Aarti at Kashi.
The second day of the summit will feature a session on ‘Digital Agriculture and Sustainable Agri Value Chain,’ followed by a discussion on ‘Public Private Partnership in Agriculture R&D: Perspective from Developed and Developing Countries.’ In the evening of April 18, the guests will visit Sarnath to explore the museum and attend the light and sound show. Later, a cultural program and dinner will be held at Buddha Theme Park.
On April 19, the MACS-2023 communique will be discussed and finalized, followed by a visit to the Trade Facilitation Center (TFC) at Bada Lalpur in the afternoon.
The G20 Indian Presidency’s theme is ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future,’ which highlights the importance of togetherness and harmony for creating a brighter future for the world. The three-day event aims to promote nutritious foods, food security, and environment-friendly farming practices for the well-being of the entire world. The event is being held in Varanasi under the motto of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, and a total of six G20 meetings will be held in the city.
