The Teacher Eligibility Test or TET-2 was conducted across eight cities on Sunday, after a hiatus of five years. Out of the total of 2,76,066 applicants, 2,37,760 candidates appeared for the test, resulting in an overall attendance of 86 per cent. When the TET-2 was last conducted in 2018, over two lakh candidates appeared. Despite repeated demands, TET-2 was not held for approximately five years, even though it is usually conducted annually.
Across 926 examination centres, the examination was conducted in three languages – Gujarati, Hindi, and English. Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of candidates who missed the exam, whereas Junagadh reported the least among these centres.
The attendance rate for the exam in Ahmedabad was over 83 per cent, while in Junagadh, it was 90 per cent. The State Examination Board conducts this exam for the recruitment of primary teachers or vidyasahayaks in upper primary government schools for Classes 6-8. Applicants belonging to the general category need to score a minimum of 60 per cent (90 marks out of a total of 150), whereas reserved categories must score at least 55 per cent or 82 marks.
There are no restrictions on the number of attempts for the exam, and applicants can take it again to improve their scores. Additionally, applicants can appear for both TET-1 (for Classes 1-5) and TET-2 (for posts meant for Class 6-8).
