Google’s Bard artificial intelligence now works with Gmail, Google Docs, Maps, Drive, and YouTube

As a knee-jerk reaction to ChatGPT’s sudden success early this year, Google debuted its Bard AI tool. However, since then, the search engine giant has continued to enhance Bard by introducing new capabilities or broadening its scope.

In Bardland, this is another “new feature” day since Bard Extensions are going live. Google says this is “a completely new way to interact and collaborate with Bard.” Bard can access pertinent data from all the other Google services you undoubtedly use every day, like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Maps, YouTube, and even Google Flights and Hotels, using Extensions.

This information-pulling still functions even when the information is spread across various apps and services. Planning a trip with your friends is an example used by Google. Bard can get the dates that work for everyone from Gmail, search up current hotel and flight information, display Google Maps directions to the airport, and display YouTube videos of things to do once you reach your destination. With Bard, all of this is possible during a single discussion.

Another example provided by Google is when someone is applying for a job and uses an AI tool to find their resume in Drive and condense it into a one-paragraph personal statement before continuing to work on their cover letter.

If you’re worried about privacy, Google assures you that the content from Gmail, Docs, and Drive that Bard accesses is not viewed by human reviewers, utilized by Bard to display advertisements to you, or used to train the Bard model.

Right now, Bard also features a “Google it” button that makes it simpler to look up its solutions. When you click the G button, Bard will read your response and determine if there is web content that supports it. When a statement can be examined, you can click the underlined words to learn more about any relevant evidence that supports or refutes the statement.

Starting today, you can carry on a Bard chat that someone has shared with you via a public link by asking them additional questions about it or using it as a springboard for another topic.

Finally, previously available only in English, functions like posting photographs with Lens, obtaining search images in responses, and editing Bard’s responses are now available in more than 40 languages.
