Luke Dashjr, a fundamental developer for Bitcoin, asserted on Sunday that a hacking attempt cost him almost all of his bitcoin assets. Additionally, he published a link to a wallet where he had sent over 200 stolen bitcoins, which were then valued at $3.5 million.
According to Cointelegraph, Luke Dashjr, one of the first Bitcoin core developers, claimed to have lost “essentially” all of his BTC as a result of a hack that occurred before the new year.
According to Cointelegraph, Dashjr claimed that the accused hackers gained access to his PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) key in a tweet from January 1, 2023. According to reports, Dashjr disclosed a wallet address where a certain amount of his Bitcoin was sent, but he withheld the amount of Bitcoin that was taken.
According to data from Cointelegraph, the wallet addresses under investigation revealed four transactions between 2:08 and 2:16 UTC on December 31, 2022, totaling 216.93 BTC, or $3.6 million at the time of writing. Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, CEO of Binance, is thought to have noticed the development and expressed his sympathy and support for Dashjr.
“I’m sorry you lost so much. notified our security team to keep an eye on it. If it approaches us, we’ll freeze it. Please let us know if there is anything further we can do to be of assistance. We frequently deal with them and have connections with Law Enforcement (LE) all around the world,” added Zhao.
Additionally, according to Cointelegraph, a user by the name of SatStandard suggested on a January 1, 2023, Reddit thread that Dashjr didn’t pay much attention to the November 17, 2022, security issue and later suggested that the Bitcoin developer “did not keep distinct operations isolated.” Others reportedly emphasized that there was no hack at all and claimed that the seed word had simply been discovered.
