In 2025, Meta May Launch Its First Smartwatch, Followed By AR Glasses In 2027: Reports

In the following four years, Meta intends to introduce several products that use VR and AR technology, such as smart glasses and headsets. The Facebook-owned business Meta may be preparing to debut its first smart glasses with a display in 2025 and its first augmented reality (AR) glasses in 2027, according to a company presentation of its AR/VR roadmap, according to tech news source The Verge on Wednesday.

Avatar holograms of the highest quality will be able to be projected onto the real world via Meta’s first fully functional AR glasses, which are expected to be released in 2027. In addition, Verge reported that it might introduce its third-generation camera-equipped smart glasses in 2025. According to reports, the glasses would include a “neural interface” smartwatch enabling hand gestures to operate the spectacles.

During the presentation, Alex Himel, vice president of AR at Meta, mentioned that the business is also working on a smartwatch to go with its smart glasses. This will occur together with developments in neural interfacing.

The camera-equipped smart glasses from Meta, which will enter their second iteration in the fall of 2023, will have the earliest debut.

The development of Meta’s Quest headsets was also highlighted in the talk. This year, the business plans to release the Quest 3 headset, which will be sleeker and more sophisticated than the Quest 2. The Verge reports that mixed reality experiences will make up most of it. However, a less expensive headset with the codename Ventura is anticipated in 2024.

According to Meta, there will be roughly 40 new apps or games for the Quest 3 headset, despite acknowledging that the company was having trouble generating consumer interest in the Quest product. Moreover, Meta reported selling nearly 20 million Quest headsets. Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram are also making progress in artificial intelligence.

According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the creation of a “top-level” product division by Meta on February 28 would bring all of the company’s AI teams under one roof. Before moving on to more “futuristic” technology features, Mr. Zuckerberg stated that Meta would concentrate on providing “delightful experiences” for users.
