ChatGPT, OpenAI’s acclaimed AI chatbot, has announced a new feature for Android smartphones: a simple home screen widget. With this development, OpenAI continues to push forward in its efforts to improve user experience in the face of intense competition—especially from Google Gemini, a new player in the smartphone assistant market.
By giving users rapid access straight from their home screens, the widget increases ChatGPT’s accessibility, as revealed by Android Central contributor Mishaal Rahman in an X post. With its array of features, which include voice, video, and text query shortcuts, the ChatGPT widget simplifies communication with the AI chatbot.
The widget especially makes it easier to go into conversation mode so that you can easily communicate with ChatGPT without ever leaving your home screen. With its release in-app version 1.2024.052, the widget has the potential to completely transform how users interact with the AI platform.
It is important to note, though, that despite all the excitement around this feature, it is still not available in the version that is now available on the Google Play Store (1.2024.045). This disparity implies that the widget might be in the beta stage before being made generally available.
On the other hand, ChatGPT’s creator has also just announced a new tool that can instantaneously create short movies in response to given commands, which is another milestone in generative artificial intelligence. Sora is the new text-to-video generator from OpenAI, which has Microsoft backing. While major tech companies like Google and Meta have already shown off comparable technology, OpenAI has significantly outperformed them in terms of quality.
After the Sora software announcement, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was informed on social media by a user. He said, “Sam, please don’t make me homeless. I’ll make you a video. What do you want?” “Hmmm, a monkey playing chess in a park,” was suggested by the user. The OpenAI CEO immediately posted a superb video made by Sora on the X platform.
