The foreign ministry of Ukraine announced that a decision has been made to reduce time and resources to expedite procedures during a time of war.
A virtual artificial intelligence spokesperson has been appointed by the Ukrainian foreign ministry to provide updates on a range of topics, including the current conflict with Russia. The consular agent named Victoria Shi, according to Kyiv Post, is modeled after Ukrainian singer and influencer Rosalie Nombre, who consented to take part in the ministry’s project. The ministry released a video of the virtual spokesman on X, the former Twitter, and said that the MFA’s official website and social media outlets will feature her views.
“Introducing Victoria Shi, an AI-created digital ambassador for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who delivers timely updates on consular matters! The MFA of Ukraine has unveiled a digital persona that will formally provide commentary to the media for the first time in history, the ministry announced on X.
The government stated in a press release that Ms. Nombre gave her consent “pro bono” for the use of her voice and likeness.
“My last name represents the artificial intelligence that produced me, and my name represents our primary objective—the conquest of Ukraine. In the teaser video, Shi states, “My job will be to report to the public operational and verified information of the consular department of the MFA of Ukraine.”
“I will inform journalists of news about the work of consuls in protecting the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad, responding to incidents or emergencies and other news,” the virtual representative added.
According to the ministry, which was cited by Kyiv Post, it has implemented several measures—including QR codes—to guarantee that there is no digital counterfeiting.
The ministry went on to say that to streamline procedures during a time of conflict, a decision has been made to reduce time and resources.
According to Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, “Real diplomats will be able to be more effective and focus on other tasks of assisting citizens.” Kuleba told the Post.
