Through 2038, Amazon Web Services (AWS), a division of Amazon.com Inc., expects to invest approximately US$6.2 billion (or RM29.2 billion) in Malaysia. The company announced the opening of the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region.
The company said in a statement released in Seattle that, as of right now, developers, startups, entrepreneurs, and enterprises—along with government, educational, and non-profit organizations—will have more options when it comes to using AWS data centers in Malaysia to run their applications and support end users.
It is projected that the establishment and functioning of the new Amazon Region will boost Malaysia’s GDP by roughly US$12.1 billion (RM57.3 billion) and sustain over 3,500 full-time equivalent jobs at outside companies on average per year until 2038.
It declared, “These jobs, including those in engineering, construction, facility maintenance, telecommunications, and other sectors of the nation’s broader economy, will be part of the AWS supply chain in Malaysia.”
AWS has 108 availability zones spread across 34 geographic areas with the introduction of the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region. Plans to create 18 more availability zones and six more AWS areas in Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud have also been announced.
Three availability zones, sufficiently separated from one another to ensure customers’ business continuity but close enough to offer low latency for high availability applications utilizing multiple availability zones, make up the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region, according to the statement.
According to the statement, “Each availability zone is connected through redundant, ultra-low-latency networks and has independent power, cooling, and physical security.”
Customers of AWS that prioritize high availability can further increase fault tolerance by designing their applications to operate in various availability zones.
Vice-president of infrastructure services at AWS, Prasad Kalyanaraman, stated, “With today’s launch, AWS is proud to support Malaysia’s digital transformation and help accelerate its role as a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI).”
The opening of an AWS infrastructure region in Malaysia, according to Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, gives Malaysian organizations and businesses of all sizes access to cutting-edge technology, enhancing our nation’s capacity for digital innovation.
According to him, reaching this milestone will help Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 realize its goal of creating a highly trained, inventive, prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable economy.
As major forces behind Malaysia’s ambition to develop into an Asian center for manufacturing and services, we acknowledge the revolutionary potential of digitalization, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
The minister stated, “The AWS infrastructure region will help ensure Malaysia remains competitive on the global stage as the largest investment made by an international technology company in Malaysia.”
The most extensive and comprehensive range of services is provided by AWS, which also includes mobile services, storage, generative AI, machine learning, analytics, computers, databases, the Internet of Things, and other cloud technologies.
Customers in Malaysia and throughout the Asia Pacific could meet data residency preferences, drive innovation, achieve lower latency, and meet demand for cloud services by leveraging cutting-edge technologies from the world’s top cloud provider. These customers ranged from startups and enterprises to public sector organizations and non-profits. Bernama
