According to The New York Times, Apple is reportedly experimenting with language-generating artificial intelligence (AI) in their recent internal event that focused on AI and large language models.
Several teams, including those working on Siri voice assistant, are regularly testing “language-generating concepts.” The report mentioned that virtual assistants such as Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant have failed to understand various accents, leaving room for chatbots to rise.
Despite declining to comment on Siri, Apple is reportedly planning to join the AI race after ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. In a recent interview, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella referred to voice assistants as “dumb as a rock.” OpenAI has also unveiled its next-generation AI engine, GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT and accepts image and text inputs.
Meanwhile, Google unveiled its new AI service ‘Bard’ to compete against OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is currently being tested by trusted users before being made widely available to the public. Experts predict that in the future, the technologies of chatbots and voice assistants will converge.
