Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India will host the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly next year to progress 5G and 6G networks domestically.
Speaking at the opening of the seventh India Mobile Congress, Vaishnaw stated that the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) is one of the three world conferences of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and, as such, a part of the UN system. It is also the governing conference of the ITU Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
The last WTSA, which takes place every four years, was hosted in Geneva, Switzerland. It outlines the upcoming research phase of ITU-T.
Additionally, Vaishnaw stated that the ITU now recognizes the 5Gi standards—developed in India—as one of the three 5G technologies.
Vaishnaw commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the recent changes the telecom industry has experienced. Ten years ago, it took 230 days to erect telecom towers. It now takes ten days,” he stated.
Furthermore, Vaishnaw stated that the nation exported cell phones valued at Rs 98,000 crore last year.
