Duplex, Google’s web-based AI service, has been discontinued. As of December 2022, Google Assistant’s support for the AI technology that allowed it to automate some user chores for website visitors will end. A Google representative told TechCrunch that the company would “completely focus on developing AI breakthroughs to the Duplex voice technology that serves customers almost every day.”
Duplex on the Web, a Google technology that enables Google Assistant to automate some user chores for site visitors, will be shut down, according to Google.
Duplex on the Web is “deprecated” and will no longer be supported as of this month, according to a message on a Google support page.
The update said that after this date, “Any automation functions enabled by Duplex on the Web will no longer be supported.”
“As we continue to improve the Duplex experience, we’re responding to the feedback we’ve heard from users and developers about how to make it even better,” a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch.
“By the end of this year, we’ll turn down Duplex on the Web and fully focus on making AI advancements to the Duplex voice technology that helps people most every day,” the spokesperson added.
In conjunction with its 2019 Google I/O developer conference, the firm debuted Duplex online.
Google Assistant may conduct many tasks on the websites thanks to Duplex on the Web.
The user can interrupt the procedure and regain control at any point while these activities are being carried out in his or her full view.
According to the business, “Duplex on the Web trains periodically against your site to enable Google Assistant to perform specific tasks.”
Google Assistant may propose to carry out supported tasks for website visitors if Duplex on the Web is enabled for your site in Search Console.
