Elon Musk: Tesla Set to Make Its Way to India Soon, Says CEO After Meeting with PM Modi

Today, during his highly anticipated three-day state visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the owner of Twitter, in New York. After their meeting, Musk expressed his admiration for Modi, stating, “I’m a fan of Modi,” when speaking to reporters.

Musk reminisced about their previous encounter, mentioning that Modi had visited the Tesla Motors factory in California a few years ago, forging a connection between them. He further expressed his enthusiasm for India’s future, asserting that he believes India holds more promise than any other large country in the world.

In 2015, the Prime Minister had previously met Musk during his visit to the Tesla Motors factory in California. When asked about Tesla’s plans for entering the Indian market, Musk confidently replied, “I am confident Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible.”

According to Musk, Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to India is evident as he is urging significant investments in the country, a direction that aligns with Tesla’s goals. However, Musk emphasized the importance of determining the right timing for such ventures, with Modi’s vision aimed at benefiting India while supporting and encouraging businesses.

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Musk expressed his definite interest in the Indian market when asked about Tesla’s intentions. He responded, “Absolutely.”

Following their meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter, expressing his appreciation for Musk’s efforts in making technology accessible and affordable across various sectors. He also extended an invitation for Musk to explore investment opportunities in India’s electric mobility and commercial space sectors. Musk responded, stating, “It was an honor to meet again.”

As part of his prestigious state visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a trip to the United States, a distinction reserved for the closest of allies by Washington, DC. His itinerary includes addressing a joint session of the US Congress, engaging with business leaders and Indian expatriates, and attending a state dinner at the White House alongside US President Joe Biden.
