Eminem’s Request to Republican Candidate: Stop Using My Music in Campaigns

Ramaswamy, who portrays himself as “Trump 2.0,” has made a remarkable ascent to secure the third position among Republican contenders vying for the 2024 presidential primary elections.

Rap icon Eminem has formally issued a request to Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential hopeful, urging him to cease using his music during campaign events. This request became public knowledge on Monday when a video of Ramaswamy singing along to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” at the Iowa State Fair went viral earlier this month, amidst his significant rise in the Republican primary race.

According to a letter initially reported by the Daily Mail and later verified by AFP, music licensing organization Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) conveyed that it had received an official demand from Eminem, asking the 38-year-old candidate to refrain from utilizing his music in campaign settings.

Ramaswamy, who self-identifies as “Trump 2.0,” has unexpectedly ascended to third place among Republican contenders vying for the 2024 presidential primary elections. While an undergraduate at Harvard, he pursued a side career rapping libertarian-themed lyrics under the moniker “Da Vek.”

In a humorous nod to his intensity, Harvard’s student newspaper, The Crimson, quipped in 2006, “If you think debater-extraordinaire Vivek G. Ramaswamy ’07 is intense, you obviously haven’t met Da Vek.”

This situation isn’t unique, as well-known artists like Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Aerosmith, Adele, and even heirs of Prince have complained during past elections that their songs were played at Donald Trump rallies without their consent. The Rolling Stones even went so far as to threaten legal action if the Trump campaign continued to use their classic hit “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
