Founder of a $2.78 trillion company, didn’t believe in weekends or vacations, Bill Gates opened up on work priorities

As a child, Bill Gates never really understood the value of weekends and holidays. In a recent blog post, the co-founder of Microsoft discussed how, as he grew older and especially after becoming a father, his opinions evolved.

“I didn’t think weekends or vacations existed when I was the age of my children. However, as I grew older—particularly after becoming a father—I understood that life is about more than work, Gates stated in his blog.

He continued by saying it has been a pleasure to watch his kids grow up and that they are “invaluable sources of wisdom in their own right.” Bill Gates also wrote in his blog that one of the joys of his year was taking the stage with his youngest kid, Phoebe, at the foundation’s Goalkeepers event. “I had a great time seeing my daughter Phoebe lead a panel on gender equality this year at the foundation’s Goalkeepers event. He continued, “I can always rely on all three of my kids to keep me informed about the newest TikTok trends and how young people view the world.”

The billionaire’s remarks were made at a time when the conversation started by Infosys founder and fellow billionaire Narayana Murthy was still going strong. Murthy argued that to improve India, young professionals should work seventy hours a week.

Even while Bill Gates held similar opinions when he was younger, he recently stressed the significance of work-life balance in a blog post. “I hope you’re able to take some time this holiday season to have fun and relax before we dive into 2024,” he wrote in a note.
