Founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, sells about 12 million shares worth $2 billion

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sold over 12 million shares of the online retail and cloud services firm for approximately $2 billion, according to a company filing on Friday.

Soon after outlining a plan to sell his shares over the following year, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sold about 12 million shares of the online retail and cloud services company for about $2 billion, according to a company filing on Friday.

The documents said that the sale happened on Wednesday and Thursday.

Amazon said last week that Bezos would divest up to 50 million company shares.

The company’s most recent annual report stated that the selling plan, which is contingent upon a few requirements, was approved on November 8, 2023, and would be finalized by January 31, 2025.

Bezos started Amazon as a bookshop in 1994. He left the firm as chief executive in 2021 and became executive chairman.

With a $200 billion net worth, he is currently the second richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
