For enterprise users, the SAP AI Core generative AI hub streamlines manual processes and delivers generative AI-driven insights by integrating with Amazon Bedrock foundation models.
Walldorf and Seattle — Today, SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS), a division of Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced an expanded, strategic partnership to transform contemporary cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) experiences and assist businesses in leveraging generative artificial intelligence (AI) to drive new capabilities and efficiencies.
Together, AWS and SAP are working to improve the performance and efficiency of SAP workloads operating in the cloud, make it simpler for customers to implement the RISE with SAP solution on AWS, and integrate generative AI throughout an enterprise’s whole suite of business-critical apps.
According to Matt Garman, AWS’s future CEO, “AWS was the first cloud provider certified to support the SAP portfolio, and today, thousands of enterprise companies run SAP solutions on AWS to get the most out of their mission-critical applications.” “Now, businesses can apply generative AI to their core business data more quickly and easily to become more efficient, responsive, and sustainable. This is thanks to AWS and SAP.”
Christian Klein, CEO of SAP SE, stated, “Partnerships like this collaboration with AWS are critical as we embed generative AI solutions across our ERP applications so that customers can drive innovation at an accelerated pace.” “We are thrilled to support Amazon on their transformation journey as they adopt RISE with SAP for innovative areas like Project Kuiper, Amazon’s satellite initiative intended to increase global broadband access, in addition to delivering modern cloud ERP to our joint customers.”
SAP AI Core’s Generative AI Hub offers Amazon Bedrock’s generative AI models
Customers get safe access to a huge library of large language models (LLMs) that are readily linked to SAP business applications through the generative AI hub in the SAP AI Core infrastructure. SAP users will have access to high-performing LLMs and other foundation models (FMs) to create applications that are customized with their data thanks to the integration of generative AI models from Amazon Bedrock, such as the Anthropic Claude 3 model family and Amazon Titan. Amazon Bedrock is used by tens of thousands of clients to quickly, easily, and securely construct and grow generative AI systems leveraging FMs from top AI vendors, including Mistral AI, Stability AI, Anthropic, Cohere, Meta, AI21 Labs, and Amazon.
Through this interface, SAP clients can modernize important business processes based on SAP solutions and hasten the implementation of generative AI. These innovations can be applied as an integration component or side-by-side directly on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) in integrated use cases within RISE with SAP and the intelligent scenario lifecycle management capabilities. SAP and AWS want to increase the generative AI hub’s usage of Bedrock capabilities to better allow integrated AI functionality across SAP’s suite of cloud apps and solutions. Additional use cases in the fields of finance and product lifecycle management are included in this.
AWS Chips Will Be Used by SAP to Train and Implement Upcoming SAP Business AI Products
SAP HANA Cloud is supported by AWS Graviton3 chips, which enables SAP to achieve cost reductions, energy efficiency, and performance improvements. SAP has achieved up to 30% better compute for analytical workloads and an anticipated 45% decrease in carbon footprint for SAP HANA Cloud by utilizing Graviton3-based Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances. To keep enhancing speed and effectiveness, SAP and AWS are working together on the next iteration of Graviton4 for SAP HANA Cloud and other SAP applications. SAP intends to employ AWS Graviton to support SAP apps and solutions, including SAP BTP, SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud, and the SAP Cloud ALM solution, based on the success of operating SAP HANA Cloud on AWS Graviton.
SAP intends to train and implement its next SAP Business AI products using AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia chips, designed specifically for AI and machine learning (ML) workloads, unlike 23 days with similar Amazon EC2 instances, SAP developers trained and optimized generative AI LLMs in two days using Trainium and Inferential 2-based instances as proof of concept. SAP may expedite the development process while preserving high standards of accuracy and dependability by utilizing Trainium’s specific architecture created for effective ML model training.
Enhanced RISE Performance with SAP on AWS
For executing their biggest, trickiest, international SAP solution projects, thousands of customers have chosen RISE with SAP on AWS. The next-generation Amazon EC2 high-power U7i instances, now widely available, give clients the power and flexibility they need to manage growing SAP HANA database requirements. They can hold up to 32TiB of memory in a single instance. The first DDR5 memory-based 8-socket solution from a top cloud provider, Amazon EC2 High Memory U7i instances, enhances the performance of memory-intensive apps like SAP S/4HANA Cloud as part of RISE with SAP.
Project Kuiper at Amazon Chooses RISE with SAP
SAP software on AWS is already used by Amazon companies like Twitch, Zappos.com, and Zoox Inc. to support their operations. And now, to support its intricate manufacturing and supply chain processes and to maximize the performance and value of its mission-critical SAP software, Project Kuiper, Amazon’s satellite broadband network, is using RISE with SAP. Utilizing AWS to host SAP solutions enables Kuiper to leverage the most recent SAP features integrated into RISE with SAP, facilitating significant change, expediting business choices, and augmenting overall efficiency and output.
Project Kuiper aims to reduce the digital gap by providing fast, inexpensive broadband to many consumers operating in areas lacking dependable internet connections. Hundreds of millions of people lack proper internet access. To realize that goal, Kuiper must manufacture satellites at a never-before-seen pace. The Project Kuiper team can now run a modern cloud ERP as a managed service using the most dependable and scalable infrastructure thanks to RISE with SAP, freeing them up to concentrate on innovation rather than IT management.
