It appears that the tech giant may soon rename the AI-powered chatbot as Gemini, according to a leaked changelog update for Google Bard. It also provides information about the Gemini Android app and a paid tier powered by Gemini Ultra.
Google may soon rebrand its AI-powered chatbot ‘Bard’ as ‘Gemini’. The software company has been regularly adding new features to its Gemini-powered AI chatbot in the previous several months, with the most recent version providing image-generating capabilities.
The information comes from a recent post by Android app developer Dylan Roussel on X (formerly Twitter), which is supported by prior rumors from 9to5Google indicating that Google Bard will soon be rebranded to Gemini. A reportedly leaked snapshot reveals a changelog dated February 7, 2024, which suggests a name change and gives us a glimpse into some new features.
Gemini Ultra, the company’s most advanced large language model to date—which may even be more sophisticated than OpenAI’s GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT Plus and Microsoft Copilot—powers the “Advanced” tier.
According to the changelog, Gemini Advanced will be placed behind a paywall. Google claims that its most powerful large language model is capable of “performing complex tasks like logical reasoning, coding, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration.” The company also appears to be expanding Gemini Ultra’s capabilities in the “coming months,” enhancing its ability to thoroughly analyze files, data, papers, and other items.
Fortunately, the most intriguing aspect is the release of the Gemini app for Android devices. Google claims that the new software may “help learning in new ways, writing thank you notes, planning events, and more with Google AI on your phone.” It appears that Gemini will be connected with many Google services, including Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. While Android will get a new dedicated app, iOS users may have to utilize the Google app to try Gemini.
