Google’s AI Overviews in Search: Here’s how to disable them

For those who find Google’s AI-powered search to be inconvenient, here’s how to turn off the summaries the technology generates.

Earlier this month, Google made its AI-powered search function, AI Overviews, available to the general public through ordinary search.

Overviews, sometimes referred to as “Search Generative Experience,” functions by giving users access to summaries of web information produced by its internal LLM. Furthermore, even though this feature is enabled by default, it only shows up when the search engine thinks it can offer a summary with more useful information than standard blue links.

Since its release, the feature has drawn criticism for answering user queries in an erroneous and occasionally bizarre manner.

Those who would rather view the actual content that was utilized to create the summary instead of reading summaries may find the functionality to be inconvenient.

Even so, Google has taken considerable efforts to encourage users to interact with the summarized content—for example, by closing down support threads where users were inquiring about how to turn off the function. There is a solution for people who don’t want to see AI Overviews.

Here’s How to turn off Overviews for Google AI

– Google can be made to constantly display web results without AI summaries, videos, photos, or other search features by users who choose not to use Google’s AI Overviews.

– This is a detailed tutorial on how to have Google ignore the AI summaries. – Launch the Chrome browser.

– Select “Settings” by clicking the three dots in the upper right corner of the menu.

– To access the “Search engine” setting, scroll down. This ought to be seen in the left panel.

– Click Manage search engines and site search after selecting the search engine.

– Select the “Site Search” option and click the add button.

– Type the name of your search engine into the Add search engine box. To use the search engine from the address bar quickly, type a keyword shortcut, such as “Web” or “Search.”

– Change the URL to {google:baseURL}/search?udm=14&q=%s.Click the Add button.

– Next, pick “Make Default” by clicking the three dots menu next to the newly constructed search engine.

– Under Search engines, the default search engine ought to now be visible to you.

– After closing the settings page, Google Chrome will now use Google’s new Web Search function in place of AI Overviews when you search from the address bar.

– If you would like to return to AI Overviews, simply select Google as your default search engine under the Chrome settings page.

You can also use Microsoft Edge or any other browser by following these steps. There might be a different method to access the settings, though.
