Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE), powered by AI, is undergoing a significant upgrade with the addition of a feature that provides article summaries to users during web reading.
The ongoing experiment phase introduces the “SGE while browsing” feature.
To aid in comprehending intricate web pages when delving into unfamiliar subjects, Google is initiating an early experiment within Search Labs called “SGE while browsing.” This feature is currently accessible through the Google app on Android and iOS, with plans to extend it to Chrome on desktops in the near future.
When utilizing the Google app on mobile devices, users can trigger the display of AI-generated “key points” from an article by tapping an icon at the bottom.
It’s important to note that this feature is designed exclusively for publicly available web articles; however, Google clarified that it won’t function on websites that publishers designate as paywalled.
Beyond this, Google is introducing several other enhancements to SGE.
For search queries involving subjects like science, economics, and history, users will have the ability to hover over specific words in the SGE results to obtain definitions or diagrams related to the topic.
Google is also streamlining the comprehension of coding information summaries provided by SGE.
Whether you’re a novice or proficient programmer, expanding your knowledge of coding is likely on your agenda, and generative AI can be an invaluable tool. Google is adding new features to SGE, making it more user-friendly and effective in understanding and troubleshooting generated code.
In a separate development, it appears that Google is actively developing an artificial intelligence (AI) writing and editing feature for Chromebooks.
