Artificial Intelligence is entering a defining phase—one that has the power to reshape economies, societies, and the future of human progress. As AI technologies evolve rapidly, they are unlocking extraordinary opportunities across industries while simultaneously challenging existing social, economic, and geopolitical structures.
With its multi-modal and multi-lingual capabilities, AI can dramatically expand access to education, healthcare, governance, and economic participation. Increasingly, it is being viewed not just as a technological breakthrough, but as a strategic enabler of equitable growth—capable of reaching communities that have long remained underserved.
Over the past few years, global momentum around responsible AI has accelerated. International frameworks such as the G20 AI Principles, UN and Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) resolutions, the African Declaration on AI, and the Hamburg Declaration on Responsible AI reflect a growing consensus that AI’s impact is global and demands collective stewardship.
Yet, despite these commitments, a significant disconnect remains between ambition and execution. The Global AI Divide continues to widen, with data, infrastructure, and expertise concentrated in a handful of countries and corporations. This imbalance limits the development of culturally relevant, socially grounded, and linguistically inclusive AI systems—particularly across the Global South—reducing AI’s potential to advance shared development goals.
At the same time, AI’s rapid adoption is introducing complex challenges. Shifts in employment, the reinforcement of algorithmic bias, and rising energy demands are emerging as critical concerns. These realities underscore the need to move beyond policy declarations and toward measurable outcomes that address both AI’s benefits and its risks.
From Commitment to Impact
Scheduled for February 19–20, 2026, in New Delhi, the India–AI Impact Summit 2026 marks a historic milestone as the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South. Announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the France AI Action Summit, the event builds on global efforts such as the UK AI Safety Summit, AI Seoul Summit, France AI Action Summit, and the Global AI Summit on Africa.
The Summit will focus on strengthening multilateral collaboration, advancing actionable frameworks, and delivering real-world outcomes that move global AI governance from policy intent to practical impact. A core objective is to ensure that AI-driven innovation remains people-centric, inclusive, and environmentally responsible.
By amplifying perspectives from the Global South, the Summit seeks to rebalance the global AI ecosystem—ensuring that technological progress and opportunity are shared broadly rather than concentrated among a few regions.
