According to data from the United Nations, India has surpassed China to become the world’s most populous country. This news comes from New York.
For the first time since the UN began recording population data in 1950, India has surpassed China as the world’s most populous country, with a population of 1,428.6 million people. The UN world population dashboard reported these figures.
China’s population, on the other hand, has fallen for the first time since 1960. In 2016, Beijing ended its strict “one-child policy” that was implemented in the 1980s to combat overpopulation, and in 2021, it began allowing couples to have up to three children. However, China still faces a decline in population as its workforce ages and fertility rates decrease.
The United States is presently in third place, with an estimated population of 340 million people.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, India has not conducted a census since 2011, and fresh official statistics on its population size are not available. The once-in-a-decade census, which was scheduled for 2021, was postponed. According to UN data, the global population is anticipated to reach 8.045 billion by mid-2023.
