IoT technology is still making its way into the manufacturing sector. This week’s IoT Evolution Exhibition demonstrated numerous opportunities for the Internet of Things to enhance manufacturing.
Technologies exist to transmit massive amounts of digital data, monitor tangible objects, and increase employee productivity.
In manufacturing machines, for instance, sensors that can detect temperature, vibration, and ultrasound are utilized to predict when servicing is necessary.
According to Carlos Beato, CEO of Konecto, “the system employs machine learning on the monitored data to detect deviation from the criteria.” “Beato gave me an example of how putting a screwdriver on top of an air pump would trigger an alert, and sure enough, the variance was shown by a red light appearing on a check on a Computer dashboard,” he added.
The idea is that when a worker notices the red light, they will check the dashboard and, if necessary, request the necessary repairs. The main benefit is the ability to match variants to determine when route servicing is required.
Other technologies displayed at the expo here in Fort Lauderdale can transmit enormous volumes of data from manufacturing plants to the cloud for analyses and action while that information is stored and used locally.
The volume of data being produced has significantly increased as a result of 5G, according to Marc Huijbregts, vice president of solutions engineering at Wandisco.
The company moves large volumes of data from data centers for companies in various industries, including automotive and telecommunications.
Huijbregts stated, “We don’t look at any data.”
Meanwhile, Amit Raj, head of marketing at LTIMindtree, explained that the company’s goal for the production floor now that the two businesses had merged is to improve employee safety.
Raj explained as we watched a VR demonstration of people waiting in line to try, “We utilize virtual reality to show how to correctly move large products in the plant, for example.”
IoT technology is making its way into every aspect of production to assist at various points in the process.
