Imagine a world where leadership isn’t measured by profits alone, but by presence, purpose, and the people it uplifts. That’s the world Jonathan Reynolds is shaping through Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc. As Founder and CEO, he has built his journey on the conviction that clarity and purpose are not leadership luxuries—they’re essentials. From grassroots origins to an international movement, his work carries a radical yet timeless truth: mindfulness is not simply a practice, but the very foundation for the future of work and life.
While some leaders chase growth and others chase innovation, Jonathan Reynolds chases presence. His mission is as simple as it is profound: to reimagine work and living through mindfulness, making them more peaceful, sustainable, and deeply human.
Science and Human Development as a Foundation
Academically, Jonathan trained as both a scientist and a mental health professional, and this combination of the scientific method and an interest in biopsychosocial perspectives has been instrumental in supporting his ongoing inquiry into what can be truly useful in various contexts. His training in mindfulness, coaching, and various other approaches to human development has helped him navigate and direct systems of people at scale more effectively.
Discovering Self-Awareness: The Turning Point
His entry into the mindfulness industry stemmed from his own personal growth quest. Hungry for a solution that could address multiple challenges in his life, Jonathan discovered the transformative power of self-awareness. “When I discovered that practicing mindful self-awareness was infinitely useful, the decision was clear. With this kind of deep alignment and utility, the next steps revealed themselves naturally,” he expressed. This realization wasn’t just a decision—it was an organic unfolding. Slowly, his personal curiosity and desire to be of useful service to others evolved into his life’s work.
A Vision Rooted in Simplicity
For Jonathan, the word that encapsulates his identity as a leader is “simplicity.” He believes that simplicity of vision, focus, and effort leads to traction and movement in the desired direction. Rooted in simplicity, his leadership draws from a clarity of intent and a consistency of commitment. By aligning efforts in a “one-pointed” manner, he emphasizes that our effort and commitment become sustainable in an ongoing way that honors the long game of success.
Mentors and Influences
Jonathan credits his many mentors and his personal commitment to growth as the defining influences on his leadership ethos. “I have been blessed with many wonderful mentors in my life, all of whom have contributed to helping me find my own leadership style. In addition to specific mentors, I attribute much of my success to my commitment to personal growth and the many experiences this has helped me to discover,” says Jonathan. He often reflects that ‘the way that we do anything is the way that we do everything,’ as it is our same self that acts in whatever context we act. The way we eat, walk, talk, love, discuss, and rest all show up in how we lead or collaborate with others, and his attention to personal growth has served him well in this regard, shaping an authentic, grounded leadership style.
The Birth of Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Mill Valley, California, Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc. began as an initiative to help mindfulness-informed coaches generate robust incomes while collaborating with peers. At its core, the vision has always been to foster a more mindful, peaceful, and kind world.
Overcoming the Challenge of Doubt
Jonathan acknowledges that the most formidable challenge—both in the early days and now—has been doubt. While doubt can destroy motivation and create fear, overcoming it has allowed slow, steady progress. For him, persistence in the face of uncertainty has been key to growth.
From Company to Cultural Movement
Over the years, Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc. has grown into a cultural movement and expanded its reach beyond service delivery. “We have developed our brand as a means to support all people interested in learning, living, and working more mindfully. To this end, we’ve created initiatives in the areas of social media, ecommerce, mindful services, summits and conferences, travel experiences, written works, and even the conception of a mindful news network,” says Jonathan.
Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc. is in a high-growth phase of development. “We have recently launched a new social media network, an e-commerce marketplace, an annual summit, travel experiences, and are in the process of writing our seminal work on mindful learning, living, and working. Our vision of creating a more mindful world and human experience is generating great momentum and hitting its stride!” he added.
Innovation Through an Organic Process
At Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc., Jonathan viewed innovation through a framework similar to the framework described in The Lean Startup—an organic and iterative process that honors change, growth, and continuous integration and learning.
Additionally, the company ensures that every project is designed for long-term sustainability—structured so people can realistically execute on projects over many years—and remains at the core of the company’s growth strategy. Thus, their internal systems are designed with this ideology in mind, and this long-range thinking has allowed MLMW to thrive through many ups and downs, while competitors have faltered.
Leading with Vision and Care
As Founder and CEO, Jonathan sees his role as “the holder of the vision.” Yet he stresses holding it lightly enough to adapt with changing contexts and conditions in ways that keep it useful and relevant.
His leadership style is rooted in coordination, inspiration, encouragement, and care—celebrating good work wherever it appears. He hopes to create a coaching-oriented culture where good work is consistently celebrated.
Work-Life Harmony Through Mindfulness
With nearly three decades of mindfulness practice, Reynolds ensures that self-awareness is at the heart of his work-life balance. For him, self-care and clarity stem from body-based awareness, allowing him to adapt in each moment—whether for an instant or across a decade.
People Over Profits
When reflecting on modern leadership challenges, Jonathan highlights the need to prioritize people over profits. Companies that fail to value and support their people, he warns, are quickly being replaced by those that understand the human foundation of sustainable success.
Looking Ahead
Looking two years ahead, Jonathan envisions that Mindful Life, Mindful Work, Inc. will have built out the previously-mentioned initiatives, and thus each will become its own department, requiring a more robust team to meet growing needs and complexity. “With regards to my personal aspirations, the company and its projects are designed and modified in line with my own interests and personal life stages, and thus the many new projects in the pipeline are preemptively aligned with my anticipated personal changes in mind,” he assures.
Advice for Future Leaders
To the next generation of leaders, Reynolds offers one timeless piece of advice: Pick a focus, idea, or project that is so deeply personal to who you are that the likelihood that you’ll outgrow it is slim. You can always iterate and grow upon the foundational idea, but as a starting point, ensure you’ve chosen an area that is so important to you that your passion, drive, and commitment to birthing the idea transcends the business elements that will require endless and detailed execution. When we select a seed idea in this way, then watering it will be the natural expression of how we feel about it, and in turn the work of bringing our vision into reality will be naturally rooted in and express the deep and personal love we have for it… for shouldn’t our work help build a world and life we truly love?
