‘Krutrim’, an AI chatbot launched by Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal to take on ChatGPT, Gemini

Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Ola, founded the artificial intelligence (AI) enterprise Krutrim, which has released its namesake AI chatbot into public beta. Launched in 2024, Krutrim is the first unicorn startup in the nation after announcing a $50 million financing round valued at $1 billion. Krutrim claims to be the first AI unicorn in India, and the fundraising round was spearheaded by Matrix Partners India.

Equipped with multilingual large language models (LLM), dubbed Krutrim, the chatbot—which bears the same name as the company—was unveiled as the first offering from Krutrim in December.

Bhavish Aggarwal said, “This is a start for us and our first-generation product,” indicating that Krutrim is off to a good start. There will be a ton more, and as we expand on this foundation, it will also get much better. While occasional hallucinations may occur, they will be far less common in Indian situations than on other international platforms. And we’ll be putting in extra effort to track down and correct!” in an X post.

The December-released AI models from Krutrim can produce text in ten Indian languages, including Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi, and understand over twenty Indian languages. It is anticipated that Krutrim Pro, an upgraded version, will be accessible in Q4 of FY24.

The company’s ambitions were articulated by Bhavish Aggarwal, who said, “Krutrim heralds a new era in our country’s AI computing stack. Our goal is to create new paradigms and innovate alongside the rest of the globe.”

“With over ten Indian languages and a strong foundation in Indian values and data, we’re ready to assist in English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, and even Hinglish,” says Aggarwal further.

Furthermore, Krutrim intends to create its own chips and silicon. To create domestic data centers and, eventually, servers, edge, and supercomputers, the corporation is also working on AI infrastructure. Prototype production is expected to begin in the middle of 2024, with a production roadmap to be implemented by the end of 2025.

By March 2024, Ola also intends to integrate Krutrim across all of the firms in its group, utilizing technology to streamline important activities like sales, service, and support.

Krutrim as well as Krutrim Pro

The Sanskrit word for “artificial,” Krutrim, will come in two sizes: “Krutrim Pro,” a more complex model that will be released the next quarter, and “Krutrim,” the base model that was trained on 2 trillion tokens and unique datasets. Krutrim Pro is a multimodal system with enhanced knowledge and sophisticated problem-solving abilities that can comprehend and operate with many media at once, including text, voice, image, and video.

Along with actively developing AI infrastructure, Krutrim also aims to venture into server computing, edge computing, and supercomputers. This includes creating data centers in the country. The business is also looking into producing silicon chips with AI optimization.

It’s great to see that utilizing @Krutrim’s AI chat helper was a lot of fun for users. We intend for कृत्रिम to function as your own personal helper, simplifying both your personal and professional life by completing a range of duties while adhering to Indian aesthetic sensitivities and sense of style, Aggarwal continues in another post via X.
