Matt Gooden exits Who Wot Why after a decade as co-founder, with Sean Thompson stepping up to lead the agency’s next phase of growth.
Who Wot Why has announced the departure of its co-founder, Matt Gooden, marking the end of a decade-long chapter with the creative agency.
Gooden has been with Who Wot Why since its inception in early 2016, playing a key role in shaping the agency’s creative identity. Widely recognised for his charismatic, rule-breaking approach, he leaves behind a strong creative legacy and a highly capable team positioned for the next phase of growth.
Known for embracing change every decade, Gooden previously followed a similar path after ten years at Wieden+Kennedy. His departure reflects a personal decision to explore new creative opportunities.
Following the transition, creative co-founder Sean Thompson will assume full leadership of the full-service creative and production company. Under Thompson’s direction, Who Wot Why plans to expand its offering while continuing to deliver long-term brand platforms for clients including William Hill, Prime Video, Ella’s Kitchen, Pip & Nut, and Tofoo.
The agency remains committed to its founding principle of being a creatively led, straight-talking business, with further developments expected in the year ahead.
Commenting on his move, Gooden said his curiosity continues to fuel his creativity and expressed pride in the work produced during his tenure, while thanking colleagues, clients, and partners for their support.
Thompson acknowledged Gooden’s impact on the agency and confirmed that Who Wot Why is moving forward with confidence, signalling further evolution for the business.
