The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the situation, that Meta Platforms (META.O) is developing a new artificial intelligence system that aims to be as powerful as the most sophisticated model made available by OpenAI.
According to the Journal, the Facebook parent plans to make its new AI model available by the end of the year. It will be significantly more potent than its Llama 2 commercial version.
To compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s (GOOGL.O) Bard, Meta released Llama 2 in July. It is distributed using Microsoft’s (MSFT.O) cloud Azure services.
According to the newspaper, the technology, whose specifics could yet alter, would aid other businesses in creating services that generate complex text, analysis, and additional output.
According to the study, Meta anticipates beginning the massive language model training process for its new AI system in early 2024.
Since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT last year, businesses and enterprises have flocked to the emerging generative AI industry for expanded capabilities and streamlined business processes.
In July, Bloomberg News reported that Apple (AAPL.O) is developing AI products that compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. The publication also stated that Apple has developed its own “Ajax” framework for building extensive language models and is now testing a chatbot that some engineers call “Apple GPT.”
