Michael Mewhirter returns as CEO of AdventHealth Celebration, bringing proven leadership, operational excellence, and a strong focus on community care.
AdventHealth has announced the return of Michael Mewhirter as Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth Celebration, effective February 2, 2026. The appointment was confirmed by Doug Harcombe, CEO of AdventHealth Central Florida – South Market, marking a strategic leadership transition for one of the network’s flagship campuses.
Mewhirter rejoins the Celebration campus after most recently serving as Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth East Orlando, where he led strong operational performance, workforce engagement, and patient experience at a fast-growing regional hospital.
In his new role, Mewhirter will oversee hospital strategy, clinical and operational excellence, people leadership, financial stewardship, and community health initiatives, reinforcing continuity and momentum at AdventHealth Celebration.
He is no stranger to the campus, having previously served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at AdventHealth Celebration. In that role, he managed day-to-day clinical, financial, and workforce operations, helping to build a strong foundation of leadership and care delivery.
Before rejoining AdventHealth, Mewhirter held several senior executive positions at Kettering Health, including Executive Vice President, Interim Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer, where he drove enterprise-wide financial stewardship, operational performance, and growth strategy. He also served as President of Fort Hamilton Hospital, overseeing comprehensive hospital operations and strengthening mission-driven healthcare delivery.
Mewhirter began his healthcare leadership career with Florida Hospital (now AdventHealth), holding multiple finance and operations roles across Celebration Health, Waterman, and North Pinellas. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Webster University.
His return signals a renewed focus on strategic leadership, operational excellence, and community-centered care at AdventHealth Celebration.
