OpenAI appoints Michael Tabtabai as its first Global VP of Creative, strengthening brand storytelling and creative strategy in the AI industry.

OpenAI has appointed Michael Tabtabai as its first-ever Global Vice-President of Creative, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to strengthen its brand and creative strategy.

Sharing the news on LinkedIn, Tabtabai expressed his excitement: “I am very excited to begin this next chapter at OpenAI. (Re)uniting with Kate Rouch, Gary Briggs, Zach Stubenvoll, Sarah Russell, Ali Layng, and so many others is a dream come true. It’s only been a few days, and yet I’m already blown away by the people and the possibilities.”

Tabtabai brings a wealth of creative and advertising experience from leading global brands. Before joining OpenAI, he served as VP of Creative at Coinbase and as Executive Creative Director at Google, where he spearheaded notable campaigns including Searching for an End to Racial Injustice, The Most Searched: A Celebration of Black History Makers, and Google Year in Search 2017.

His career spans across some of the world’s most renowned agencies, including Wieden+Kennedy, Saatchi & Saatchi, TBWA Chiat Day, Modernista!, and Crispin Porter + Bogusky. In addition to his leadership roles, he has worked as a freelance creative, photographer, and filmmaker—adding diverse expertise to his profile.

With Tabtabai stepping into this newly created role, OpenAI signals its focus on elevating brand storytelling and strengthening its global creative direction as the company continues to expand its reach in the rapidly evolving AI industry.
