An artificial intelligence (AI) manager position is available at Netflix, with a potential annual compensation of $900,000 (about Rs. 7.4 crores). It enables remote working and aims to “increase the leverage” of Netflix’s machine learning program.
The company recently defined the “product manager” position, which will “increase the leverage” of Netflix’s machine learning program and apply AI to various facets of the company’s operations, including content acquisition and customizing user suggestions
According to the company’s website, “The overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $300,000-$900,000.”
The position of technical director in the company’s game studio also requires an understanding of AI. For it, Netflix is willing to pay a yearly salary of $650,000 (about Rs 5 crore).
While Hollywood unions are on strike over worries about how AI may influence the entertainment business and compensation, requests for such lucrative positions are being made.
This is a significant worry for Sag-Aftra, the union representing actors, which has been outspoken about its concerns that algorithms and AI have too much power.
“Algorithms dictate how many episodes a season needs to have before you reach a plateau of new subscribers, and how many seasons a series needs to be on,” Sag-Aftra’s Fran Drescher told Time magazine. “That reduces the number of seasons to three or four and the number of episodes per season to between six and ten. That won’t sustain you.
“A business model imposed upon us that has produced a myriad of issues for everyone up and down the ladder is systematically squeezing us out of our livelihood,” she continued.
