OpenAI has achieved a landmark revenue of $2 billion as its growth accelerates

Reuters stated that in December 2023, ChatGPT’s founder OpenAI reached a revenue milestone of $2 billion. First to report on the story was the Financial Times, which cited two sources from the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence (AI) startup.

According to a Bloomberg story, the company made headlines earlier on February 9 due to founder and CEO Sam Altman’s alleged discussions with several possible investors in an attempt to fund billions of dollars to establish a chip manufacturing business. The 38-year-old businessman reportedly wants to build a network of plants to produce semiconductors.

Budgetary Schemes

Tens of billions of dollars would be required to fund OpenAI’s aspirations to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, according to a recent Bloomberg story. It is anticipated that the process of creating a network of these facilities will take several years.

An important player in this project, Altman has been in talks to raise money from several prominent sources, such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), Softbank, and Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates. Notably, the country’s major investment funds are under the supervision of Sheikh Tahnoon, the national security advisor and brother of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

It’s yet unknown, citing information from the Financial Times, if the new business will function as an OpenAI subsidiary or independently. Nonetheless, the report cites two informed individuals as confirming that OpenAI will be the new company’s first customer.

Manufacturing Prognosis

According to a previous Reuters story from the previous year, OpenAI was thinking about buying prospective takeover opportunities and investigating the possibilities of producing its chipset. OpenAI was actively investigating some options to alleviate the scarcity of AI chips, such as working with other chip manufacturers and expanding its supplier base outside Nvidia, even though the final decision was still pending.

Since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT more than a year ago, there has been a notable increase in interest in artificial intelligence applications, which has led to a rising demand for processors and the necessary chips.
