Robert Downey Jr. has voiced a strong opposition to the idea of his portrayal as Tony Stark being recreated using artificial intelligence. He expressed that he would pursue legal action against any future Marvel executives who attempt to use his likeness after his passing.
In a recent appearance on the On With Kara Swisher podcast, the Oscar-winning actor announced that he would “sue all future executives” if an AI version of his Iron Man character were ever created without his consent. Downey emphasized his confidence in Marvel’s current leaders, noting they would never consider using AI to replicate his iconic role.
“I’m not concerned about them compromising my character’s essence because there are only a handful of people making decisions there, and they would never do that to me,” Downey remarked.
However, when Swisher reminded him that these executives would one day be replaced, Downey doubled down on his stance, asserting that his legal team would carry on the pursuit after his death. “You’re right,” Downey acknowledged. “I hereby state that I intend to sue all future executives on principle.”
In a humorous exchange, Swisher noted, “You’ll be dead,” to which Downey replied, “But my law firm will still be very much alive.”
Though he retired from the Marvel world after his role as Iron Man, Downey surprised fans earlier this year by announcing his return to play the formidable villain, Dr. Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom.
