On Monday, Sberbank, a Russian financial institution, revealed the launch of a technology named GigaChat, which is capable of competing with ChatGPT. This Russian substitute for ChatGPT is presently in its initial phase of testing, which is invite-only.
Sberbank has joined the artificial intelligence chatbot competition, claiming that its chatbot is a strong competitor to the well-known AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT. According to the bank, GigaChat’s distinctive feature is its capability to converse intelligently in Russian. Sberbank believes that this ability sets GigaChat apart from other neural networks developed outside of Russia.
In recent years, Sberbank, which is the leading bank in Russia, has made significant investments in technology, according to Reuters. The news agency reports that this move was motivated by the need to reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign imports.
The issue of reducing Russia’s reliance on foreign exports has become increasingly critical due to the imposition of punitive sanctions on the nation by Western countries, including the United States, following its invasion of Ukraine. As a result, many foreign nations have also cut off exports to Russia.
Last year’s launch of ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot developed by OpenAI with support from Microsoft, has ignited a competition in the technology industry to make artificial intelligence more accessible to a broader audience. According to Reuters, the goal is to revolutionize the way people work and generate profits in the process.
In addition to Russia, China has also introduced its versions of AI-based chatbots. Baidu’s Ernie and Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen, similar to Russia’s GigaChat, have the ability to communicate in their respective native dialects.
Tech giant and Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, has also revealed his plans to develop an alternative to ChatGPT, as per reports. The new chatbot, called “TruthGPT,” aims to act as a “maximum truth seeking AI.”
