Nonetheless, the CEO of TCS stated that ultimately there will be more work.
K Krithivasan, CEO of Tata Consultancy, thinks that although artificial intelligence may first disrupt job prospects, there will eventually be more work.
As you can see with every technology, there will be some disruption, but ultimately we will have more work, Krithivasan said on Wednesday at the Nasscom Technology Leadership Forum. We think it’s necessary to keep hiring the same amount of people that we are now hiring. However, we don’t need to cut back on staff; instead, we just need to adjust how we train new hires and the types of people we employ.
According to Krithivasan, there will be shifts in the center of the tech value chain, but there will still be a need for people with critical thinking abilities in positions like design and code validation. Krithivasan went on to say that AI will boost mid-level coder productivity.
Krithivasan went on to say that although the company is facing significant macroeconomic challenges, things could get better in FY25. “The upcoming fiscal year is expected to surpass the current one, as a result of the emergence of green shoots in several of our major industrial verticals. Thus, the upcoming year will be superior to 2023.
“Productivity is just one benefit of generative AI, but using gen AI you can create value across a whole gamut of verticals,” Krithivasan continued when discussing the AI advantage for India. He continued, “The India AI advantage could be created by the diversity of Indians and their exposure to different ways of doing work.”
