While Weil has had prominent roles, like as VP of Product for Novi at Facebook, Friar most recently held the post of CEO of Nextdoor.
Two new executives have joined OpenAI’s leadership team: Kevin Weil has been named Chief Product Officer, and Sarah Friar has been named Chief Financial Officer. The goal of this action is to further OpenAI’s purpose of safely delivering AI products and performing cutting-edge research.
“With the depth of experience that Sarah and Kevin bring, we can scale our operations, plan for the next phase of growth, and make sure our teams have what they need to succeed,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.
Sarah Friar, who was CFO at Square before serving as CEO of Nextdoor, will be in charge of OpenAI’s finance division. Her responsibilities include scaling operations to meet the expectations of OpenAI’s expanding customer base and the company’s complicated global environment, as well as supporting core research capabilities. In addition, Friar holds the positions of Co-Chair of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, Fellow of the Aspen Institute, and Board Member of Walmart and Consensys.

Kevin Weil, who oversaw Planet Labs’ product and business division as president, will lead OpenAI’s product team. His main goal will be to use OpenAI’s research to create goods and services that businesses, developers, and consumers can use.
Weil has held prominent roles at Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, including Vice President of Product for Novi and SVP of Product. In addition, he is on the boards of the Black Product Managers Network and The Nature Conservancy, as well as the Council on Foreign Relations.
