Users of WhatsApp are lured by these viral messages to click on a link and download the linked app. Unfortunately, this allows attackers to access and take the phone’s data. The stolen data may contain private information like bank account information, contact information, and images, which may also result in spam assaults.

The Mumbai Police has warned about this fraud in response to the spike in these spam texts. The Mumbai Police clarified the matter for the general public by explaining that the scammers offered the user a false link that initially looked like an official update. When the user clicks on this link, potentially harmful software may be installed on the user’s phone. Through WhatsApp, the compromised phone can then be used to spread the infection to other contacts’ phones.

Rely only on authorized sources: Whenever you download and install an app like WhatsApp, go with a reputable store like Google Play Store. Users of iPhones are already secure since Apple forbids installations from unidentified sources. Stay away from APKs and untrusted websites: Avoid downloading software from unfamiliar websites or APK files distributed by strangers.

Check messages that were forwarded: When determining whether a WhatsApp message was sent by a friend or by an unknown sender, look for the “Forwarded” mark. When receiving communications from contacts you don’t know, be cautious.
