Data Centers will soon be able to utilize Apple’s own AI chip

The Journal, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the topic, said that the project would build on Apple’s prior attempts to produce in-house chips, which are used in its iPhones, Macs, and other gadgets. The company’s code name for the server project is ACDC, according to the publication.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple Inc. has been working on a proprietary chip that would enable artificial intelligence applications to be used in data centers. However, it’s not obvious when this chip would be used.

Monday night saw a 1.2% increase in Apple shares during late trading. Through the end of the year, they had decreased 5.6%. A request for comment from the Cupertino, California-based corporation was met with no immediate response.

When it comes to generative AI, the technology that powers chatbots and other well-liked new products, Apple has been lagging behind its tech competitors. However, the business is getting ready to present a fresh approach to artificial intelligence at the Worldwide Developers Conference next month.

According to Bloomberg, its strategy is anticipated to center on new proactive features that can help people in their day-to-day lives. To provide generative AI services, Apple has also undertaken discussions with possible partners including OpenAI and Google, both owned by Alphabet Inc.

Should Apple decide to develop its own server processor, it would join a number of the biggest industry giants in this regard. Data centers operated by Google, Microsoft Corp., Amazon.com Inc.’s AWS, Meta Platforms Inc., and others run in part on semiconductors that were designed in-house. The conventional supremacy of Intel Corp.’s components has been undermined by these attempts.
