When Google Bard went public earlier this year, it was the company’s response to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Thanks to the numerous improvements the PaLM 2 LLM-based chatbot has gotten this year, the tech giant has shown it some love over time.
However, Google isn’t giving up and is keeping the chatbot updated with new features. The most recent is its comprehension of YouTube video content.
Now, Bard can search through YouTube videos and “watch” them to compile data for you. This function might help locate recipes, conduct research, or summarize long videos you don’t have time to watch.
After independent testing, the feature performs as promised. After we fed it one of our video tales, Bard properly provided a thorough synopsis of the topics we covered in the video. In fact, Bard accurately answers the question about who also served as the video’s anchor here.
Interestingly, Bard had been able to comprehend video information since September, but its complete functionalities, including contextual understanding and response, still needed to be enabled.
“We’re taking the first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos. For example, if you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires,” Google notes in the Bard changelog. It added, “We’ve heard you want deeper engagement with YouTube videos. So we’re expanding the YouTube Extension to understand some video content so you can have a richer conversation with Bard about it.”
Copy the URL of a YouTube video and enter it into Bard, along with a detailed prompt indicating the information you wish to extract from the video, to begin using this functionality. And if that information is in the video, it will be able to locate it.
