India’s Unemployment Rate Hits Four-Month High Despite Slight Uptick in Rural Jobs

The latest data showed that India’s unemployment rate reached a four-month high, despite a slight increase in rural jobs.

According to data from the research firm Centre for Monitoring India Economy, the nationwide joblessness rate increased from 7.8% in March to 8.11% in April. Urban unemployment rose from 8.51% to 9.81% during the same period, while rural unemployment decreased slightly from 7.47% in March to 7.34% in April.
