Prime Minister Narendra Modi compared prior administrations to ancient phones that would hang when their screens were touched. After 2014, he claimed, people stopped using these “outdated phones.”
Since 5G was introduced, more than 4 lakh base stations have been set up, covering 97% of the country, according to PM Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is striving to lead the way in 6G technology in addition to focusing on the rollout of 5G.
Speaking on the opening day of the 7th India Mobile Congress, Modi made this announcement while also officially opening 100 5G labs around the nation.
“These labs will help youngsters dream big and aid them in realizing these dreams,” Modi said.
“When I was going through the stalls at the exhibition, I saw a glimpse of our future in terms of 6G, cybersecurity, drone, space sector, green tech, and so on,” Modi said.
According to Modi, over 4 lakh 5G base stations have been set up since 5G was introduced, covering 97% of the country.
Internet velocity
The prime minister added that India’s broadband speed has tripled due to 5G.
“Slower internet speeds make life easier. Educators and learners can establish stronger connections. Physicians and patients,” Modi remarked.
Additionally, Modi stated that the BharatNet initiative has provided broadband connections to 2,000 gram panchayats.
Development of Electronics Manufacturing
The prime minister also spoke on improving the nation’s semiconductor ecosystem and electronics manufacturing, saying, “Before 2014, India’s government was like smartphones—it would hang if someone touched the screen. In 2014, we gave up using antiquated phones. In the past, we imported cell phones. We are exporters now.”
“In India, Google will produce its Pixel smartphones. Phones from Samsung and Apple (the iPhone 15) are already in production. The entire world now uses phones built in India,” he continued.
Airtel and Reliance Jio on 5G
Prime Minister Modi was commended by Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited Chairman Akash Ambani for spearheading the digital connectivity revolution that has connected 1.4 billion Indians.
“You pushed us to establish India as a worldwide leader in 5G last year. Our accomplishments are astounding. “Jio had the quickest 5G rollout,” he claimed.
Ambani said that he will be working on revealing the Digital Statue of Unity at the same time that PM Modi constructed the Statue of Unity, the most giant statue in the world.
According to Sunil Bharti Mittal, the chairperson of Bharti Airtel, Airtel 5G is currently available in 20,000 villages and 5,000 municipalities.
“By March 2024, Airtel will have covered the entire country with 5G,” he stated.
Additionally, Mittal announced that starting next month, customers could utilize OneWeb’s satellite communication (satcom) services, in which Bharti Airtel holds the majority interest. A ground-based satellite station has been established in Mehsana, Gujarat.
