As per Check Point’s data, India is the second most targeted country in Asia-Pacific, with 2,138 attacks each week per organization—only surpassed by Taiwan’s 3,050 occurrences.
NEW DELHI: The number of cyber attack instances in India climbed by 15% each week on average in 2023, following just Taiwan in the Asia Pacific region, cyber security firm Check Point announced Monday.
Organizations worldwide saw an average of 1,158 weekly cyber assaults, a 1% increase over 2022.
“In 2023, India got 2,138 weekly attacks per organization, a 15% increase from 2022. Within APAC, India is the second most targeted country, with 2,138 weekly attacks per company, trailing only Taiwan’s 3,050 occurrences,” Check Point reported.
According to the research, India has had the second biggest growth in attacks in APAC, at 15%, trailing only Korea’s 21% increase since 2022.
“Regionally, APAC led with the highest average number of weekly attacks, with an average of 1,930 attacks per organization, a 3 percent increase compared to last year, while Africa witnessed a substantial 12 percent YoY increase in the average number of weekly attacks per organization, reaching an average of 1,900 attacks,” according to the report.
According to Check Point data, the education and research sector, which was formerly a prominent target, saw a significant 12% decline in attacks, although being at the top of the list for the biggest amount of cyber attacks.
“Retail and wholesale sectors had a 22% increase, indicating a shift in attacker concentration. The healthcare sector’s 3% increase in attacks is especially troubling, given the crucial nature of its services, according to the research.
