Nonprofits Get $30 Million Boost with Google.org’s GenAI Accelerator Program

Google.org

In a groundbreaking move to empower nonprofit organizations, Google.org has announced its Generative AI Accelerator program with a budget of $30 million. The initiative aims to support nonprofits in harnessing the transformative power of generative AI to address global challenges and unlock new opportunities.

Six-Month Program with Comprehensive Support

The accelerator spans six months and provides participants with:

  • Technical training to build AI-driven solutions.
  • Google Cloud credits to support the development and scaling of AI applications.
  • Pro-bono support from Google employees to guide project implementation.
  • A share of $30 million in funding for their projects.

Nonprofits worldwide can apply for the program until February 10, 2025, by visiting g.co/Accelerator/GenAI.

Building on Past Success

This is Google’s second Generative AI Accelerator. The inaugural program in 2024 brought together 21 nonprofits that created impactful solutions across sectors like climate, health, education, and crisis response.

“Four in five nonprofits feel that generative AI applies to their work, and nearly half are not using the technology due to a lack of awareness, training, tools, and funding,” Google highlighted in its announcement.

Impact Stories from 2024

The first accelerator cohort showcased inspiring projects:

  • CareerVillage developed an AI career coach to assist individuals in exploring career paths.
  • Climate Policy Radar created an AI-powered search interface for a global database of climate laws and policies.
  • Full Fact utilized AI to summarize large volumes of health misinformation, easing the burden on fact-checkers.

Expanding AI Impact in India

In 2024, Google.org awarded a $1 million grant to Karya, an Indian nonprofit helping low-income communities with AI-driven learning and earning opportunities. Karya aims to create a skilling curriculum in 10 major Indic languages, benefiting underserved populations.

Additionally, Google launched the AI Skills House initiative at the 10th edition of Google for India to provide AI training for 10 million Indians. A recent $4 million grant to the Central Square Foundation further supports responsible AI awareness in India’s education system.

Vision for the Future

Google.org’s accelerator program aspires to serve over 30 million people by 2028 through AI-driven nonprofit solutions. With its comprehensive support and global outreach, this initiative is set to redefine how technology can drive social good.

For nonprofits aiming to leverage AI for impactful change, this program offers a transformative opportunity to innovate, grow, and make a difference.
