Bacardi has named seasoned industry leader Mahesh Kanchan as Managing Director for India and Southeast Asia, strengthening its leadership team as the company accelerates growth across two of its most strategically important markets.
Effective October 1, 2026, Kanchan will assume responsibility for the combined India and Southeast Asia business, succeeding Vinay Golikeri, who has been elevated to the role of Regional President for Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) and Global Travel Retail (GTR).
The leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment for Bacardi as the family-owned spirits company continues to expand its presence across high-growth international markets, with India remaining a cornerstone of its long-term global strategy.
Veteran Industry Leader Takes Charge of Key Growth Markets
Mahesh Kanchan brings more than three decades of leadership experience spanning both the alcoholic beverages and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors. Currently serving as Managing Director for Southeast Asia, he has played a significant role in strengthening Bacardi’s regional footprint and driving business performance across diverse markets.
In his expanded role, Kanchan will oversee operations across India and Southeast Asia, guiding commercial strategy, market expansion initiatives, and brand growth efforts in a region that continues to offer substantial opportunities for premium spirits consumption.
Commenting on his appointment, Kanchan expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity ahead.
“I’m excited to take on this role at a time of significant opportunity for Bacardi in India. We have a strong team, clear momentum and a business well positioned for its next phase of growth.”
Vinay Golikeri Moves to Broader Regional Leadership Role
The appointment follows the promotion of Vinay Golikeri, who has successfully led Bacardi’s India and Southeast Asia business for more than three years. During his tenure, the company strengthened its market position and built considerable momentum across the region.
Golikeri’s new responsibilities as Regional President for AMEA and Global Travel Retail reflect Bacardi’s confidence in his leadership and extensive experience gained during more than two decades with the organization.
Reflecting on his time leading the India business, Golikeri highlighted the achievements of the regional team and expressed confidence in the leadership transition.
“It’s been a privilege to lead the India business and I’m proud of the momentum we’ve built and the strength of the team. India remains a critical market for Bacardi, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with Mahesh to build on this progress as part of my wider AMEA role.”
India Remains Central to Bacardi’s Global Strategy
The leadership announcement underscores the growing importance of India within Bacardi’s global business portfolio. The country has long been one of the company’s most significant growth markets, supported by sustained investment, expanding consumer demand, and a strong premiumization trend in the beverage industry.
Beyond its commercial importance, India has also emerged as a major leadership hub for Bacardi. The market has produced several senior executives who have gone on to hold influential positions within the company worldwide.
Among them is Bacardi Limited Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Madhavan, whose career progression reflects the depth of leadership talent emerging from the Indian business.
Positioning for Future Growth
As consumer preferences evolve and premium spirits categories continue to expand across Asia, Bacardi is reinforcing its leadership structure to capitalize on emerging opportunities. Kanchan’s extensive experience across both beverages and FMCG sectors is expected to support the company’s ambitions to deepen market penetration, strengthen brand equity, and sustain long-term growth.
With a proven leadership track record and a strong understanding of regional markets, Mahesh Kanchan’s appointment signals Bacardi’s commitment to investing in experienced talent as it enters its next chapter of expansion across India and Southeast Asia.
