The Air Force, Indian Navy, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and BrahMos Aerospace collaborated to complete the successful test firing (BAPL).
The extended-range BrahMos Air Launched missile was successfully tested by the Indian Air Force today on a ship target from a Su-30 MKI fighter plane.
According to estimates, the BrahMos missile’s enhanced range can reach targets 400 kilometers away in the sea.
The supersonic cruise missile “achieved the desired mission objectives in the Bay of Bengal region,” the defense ministry said in a statement. “With the successful test, the Indian Air Force achieved a capability boost to carry out precision strikes from Su-30 fighter aircraft against land/sea targets over long ranges.”
The statement said, “The missile’s extended range capability combined with the SU-30MKI aircraft’s outstanding performance offers the Indian Air Force a strategic reach and allows it to dominate the future war fields.

The supersonic missile’s long-range variant was successfully tested from a Sukhoi aircraft in May of this year. According to reports, the enhanced range went from 290 km to 350 km.
The missile was fired from the Su-30MKI fighter plane for the first time in a successful test that was carried out in May.
A two-stage solid propellant booster engine serves as the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile’s first stage, accelerating it to supersonic velocity. The liquid ramjet engine, which powers the second stage, accelerates the craft toward Mach 3 (3 times the speed of sound) during the cruise phase.
The BrahMos missile may be fired from land, sea, and air platforms and is universal for many different platforms. The missile operates according to the “Fire and Forget” principle, which means that it doesn’t need any additional guidance after launch and keeps a high supersonic speed the entire time it’s in the air. According to reports, the missile has a weak radar signature.
