Ford appears to have started the process about a month after it was reported that the American automaker was planning to slash up to 8,000 employees. According to reports, approximately 3,000 current employees and contract workers will be let go by Ford. US, Canada, and Indian employees will be the most affected.
The manufacturer informed staff through internal email that it would start informing affected salaried and agency workers of the layoffs this week, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In Dearborn, Michigan, almost 2,000 planned layoffs will affect salaried positions (USA). According to the business, the remaining 1,000 employees hold contract jobs with other organizations.
Ford is apparently changing how it runs and reallocating resources as it embraces new technologies that were not previously vital to its operations, such as developing cutting-edge software for its automobiles. The email was signed by Executive Chairman Bill Ford and CEO Jim Farley.
According to an IANS report, the employment cuts take effect on September 1st, 2022, according to a representative.
Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, reportedly said that the company has too many people and that the current workforce lacks the skills necessary to make the transition to a line-up of electrified, software-driven automobiles.
By 2026, he plans to reduce spending by $3 billion annually in order to increase the pre-tax profit margin from 7.3% to 10%.
