Google Sans Fonts Now Available in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Available in Google Docs

Google Sans, Google Sans Flex, and Google Sans Code are now available in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, bringing more typography customization to users.

Google has expanded customization options across its productivity suite by making Google Sans, Google Sans Flex, and Google Sans Code available directly within Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Editors. This update follows Google’s decision to open-source Google Sans and Google Sans Flex in December, enabling wider adoption beyond Google’s own products.

Originally introduced alongside Google’s 2015 logo redesign, Product Sans laid the foundation for what would become Google Sans — a typeface optimized for first-party interfaces and smaller text sizes, particularly across Android and web experiences. Building on this, Google later introduced Google Sans Flex, a variable font designed to offer greater flexibility and creative control.

With this move, Google aims to “bridge the visual gap between first-party and third-party apps,” helping create a more consistent, comfortable, and unified visual experience across devices and platforms.

What Makes Google Sans Flex Different?

Google Sans Flex allows designers and users to fine-tune typography across multiple dimensions, including:

  • Weight
  • Width
  • Optical size
  • Slant
  • Grade
  • Roundedness

Meanwhile, Google Sans Code is tailored specifically for coding environments, offering improved readability for developers.

How to Add Google Sans Fonts in Google Docs

Adding these fonts to your documents is quick and easy:

  1. Start a new document on the web (or use the shortcut: docs.new)
  2. Open the Font dropdown in the toolbar
  3. Click More fonts at the top of the list
  4. Search for Google
  5. Select Google Sans, Google Sans Flex, and/or Google Sans Code
  6. Click OK — the fonts will now appear in your font list and be available for future documents

With these additions, users gain more control over typography while maintaining a modern, Google-inspired aesthetic across their content.
