August 21, 2025 – Google has officially launched its highly anticipated Pixel 10 smartphone series, doubling down on artificial intelligence as the central battleground in the global smartphone race. The new lineup, revealed Wednesday, showcases the company’s Gemini AI assistant, which Google says makes the Pixel 10 its “smartest phone ever.”
“We’ve designed the Pixel 10 series to be more than just smartphones — they’re AI companions that anticipate what you need, when you need it,” a Google spokesperson said during the launch event.
The Pixel 10 family features four models:
- Pixel 10 – starting at $799, available in multiple colors.
- Pixel 10 Pro – priced at $999.
- Pixel 10 Pro XL – launching at $1,199 with a larger display and 256GB base storage.
- Pixel 10 Pro Fold – Google’s new foldable flagship, starting at $1,799, featuring the industry’s largest inner display at 8 inches.
AI Takes Center Stage
At the heart of the Pixel 10 is Gemini Live, Google’s conversational AI system that integrates directly into daily phone use. The assistant can surface details instantly — from pulling up an Airbnb address within a text thread to managing flights while dialing an airline.
A standout feature, “Magic Cue,” promises to anticipate user needs. “When you call an airline, your flight details appear as soon as you dial. It’s a new level of personalized intelligence,” Google explained.
The phones also include Camera Coach, an AI-powered assistant that describes scenes, suggests lighting adjustments, and even merges multiple photos to create one where “everyone looks their best.”
Foldable Push Against Samsung and Apple
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold marks Google’s boldest entry into the foldable market yet. With an 8-inch display, reinforced hinge, and “split-screen” multitasking, the device is designed for power users. “Imagine planning a trip with friends by comparing flights on one side and hotels on the other, all at once,” the company highlighted.
Analysts note that Google is racing against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, while Apple is rumored to introduce its first foldable iPhone by 2026.
AI vs. Apple: The Competitive Edge
The Pixel 10 launch comes just weeks before Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone models in September. While Google holds only a single-digit share in the global smartphone market, the Pixel line acts as a showcase for Android innovation.
Critics argue that Google’s Gemini AI models are more advanced than Apple’s Apple Intelligence suite. With Apple delaying major updates to Siri until 2026, Google sees an opening.
“If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming ‘soon,’ but it’s coming a year later, maybe it’s time to change your definition of soon — or your phone,” Google quipped in a recent Pixel 10 advertisement, taking a jab at Apple’s delays.
Subscription Strategy
Each Pixel 10 Pro purchase comes with a one-year subscription to Google’s AI Pro plan (valued at $19 per month), offering enhanced Gemini features, priority access to experimental tools like NotebookLM and Veo 3, plus extra storage.
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has described the long-term goal as creating a “universal assistant that works across any domain, any modality, and any device.”
Will AI Drive Sales?
Despite the impressive features, analysts caution that AI has not yet proven to be a decisive factor in smartphone sales. Most consumers still prioritize hardware, ecosystem, and brand loyalty. However, industry experts suggest that if Google lands a breakthrough AI feature that resonates with users, it could begin to chip away at Apple’s dominance.
For now, Google is betting big that AI — and the Pixel 10 — will redefine how people interact with their phones.
