How Irina and Elena Pospelova Are Shaping the Future of Human-Centered AI Through Leadership and Innovation

Elena Pospelova

In a world increasingly defined by technological acceleration, few leaders manage to balance innovation with humanity as gracefully as Irina and Elena Pospelova, the visionary founders behind UNIVER.AI. Based in Moscow, Russia, and building on a family legacy of entrepreneurship, science, and international collaboration, the mother-daughter duo has spent decades bridging technology, business, and human development. Their journey is not simply about artificial intelligence; it is also about people, partnerships, and the belief that collective strength can achieve extraordinary outcomes.

Mother-Daughter Journey: The Story Behind Careers

The female entrepreneur family – Irina and Elena Pospelova – has built a strong foundation as visionary leaders in the AI domain, both from commercial and scientific perspectives. They blend the technical expertise gained at the Department of Mathematics, Moscow State University, with strategic business acumen to drive transformation in emerging markets, including their homeland, Russia. Navigating complex global landscapes in the role of Vice President (VP) of Overseas Business Development, they foster collaborations that empower businesses through the ethical adoption of AI. Their journey reflects a commitment to innovation, team synergy, and cultural respect, bringing additional tools for longevity and happiness in life.

Irina and Elena Pospelova‘s academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for their careers in technology. They earned master’s degrees in Computer Science from Moscow State University, completing their studies with distinction. This institution ranks among the top 50 universities worldwide. That foundation helped both women communicate complex technological ideas in a simple way, particularly when evangelizing AI and early IT advancements in developing countries and regions of Russia.

To expand her skill set further, Elena Pospelova pursued an EMBA from the National University of Singapore with high honors. Both women are currently working with universities in Russia, such as the Construction University and the University of International Law, with a focus on practical business strategies.

Pursuit of a Dream: A Pivotal Moment

After university, Elena was accepted into a PhD program as one of the top students and was sent to Japan. There, she fell in love with the Eastern attitude toward people and humanity. After returning, she started working with Asian countries to promote and evangelize AI technologies. That was a pivotal moment, marking her transition from a technological background, like her father — a professor of mathematics — to working with technology partners and developers. It became her “calling” for the next 30 years following her return from Japan.

The next pivotal moment came in 2022, when Elena completed her NUS EMBA and, following the departure of global corporations from Russia, stepped down as CEO of the business they had built from scratch. This transition prompted her to return to academia to pursue her postponed PhD in AI in communication and text generating at the University of International Law named after A.S. Griboedov, while simultaneously taking over the parent company for industry automation, Univer.AI. The experience marked a defining chapter in her career, reinforcing her commitment to advancing both scientific research and AI-driven innovation.

The Turning Point in Her Entrepreneurial Journey

A significant turning point came in the winter of 2022, when global companies exited the Russian market, halting their focus on emerging regions. Both women rethought their strategies to better support their home country through universities and later brought that experience to countries across Asia.

The Pospelova family restructured a long-standing entity founded in 1997 that specialized in overseas sales and consulting. They rebranded it as Univer.AI, accessible via univer-ai.com.br. This move allowed them to redirect their efforts toward AI solutions tailored for global partners, maintaining momentum in innovation despite market volatility.

Currently, the Pospelova family concentrates its efforts on AI, helping elderly people enhance their lives with the necessary tools for better memory and an improved quality of life. Their other company, RANTOS, inspired by the Russian Academy of Sciences, is behind several scientific research projects in the sphere of bringing AI into literary texts.

Inspired Elena’s Life: The Value of Great Mentors

She credits much of her success to her parents, whose influence continues to guide her professional journey.

Elena shares that, first of all, it was Moscow State University, her alma mater, where she became acquainted with wonderful professors and friends. She believes she would not have been successful there without her parents. Elena is a hereditary entrepreneur from her mother’s side; she definitely learned a lot from her mother— communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to see unique combinations and abundant opportunities. From her father’s side, she inherited a scientific mindset and a passion for technology and AI, which is perhaps becoming even more important to her now.

Second, it was her partners from more than 30 countries in developing economies who taught Elena a great deal about cultural and business perspectives. Their individuality, business wisdom, and practical intelligence were something unique, multiplied by 30! She never grew tired of learning from a variety of cultural and business approaches. She particularly distinguished her business partners from China – Alex Chen –  South Korea – Joon Ho Kim – and Singapore – sisters L.E. and L.C. Koh. Their bright advice, support in the difficult time and trust forever brought the partnership into many remarkable cases!

Third, and this is still evolving, Elena found great Gurus in the enterprise world.

“They know enormously more than I do about business. For example, the best construction executive, Mehmet Draz from Turkey, has taught me the macro way of enterprise functioning, as he was the deputy chairman of the Board of Directors (BoD) of a USD 30 billion company. From the Russian side my business Guru is Maxim Kozhevnikov, founder of Granolux, which sells grain internationally at remarkable scale and speed”.

My female business friend, Julia Grosheva, has expanded my understanding of company and life operations. “We also have exciting startup ideas together that may become internationally acknowledged,” says Elena and continues: “One more precious “jewel” in consulting me with “female vibes” is Nelly, my real Godmother – we are friends from school age but have different background in professional life – Nelly is more on operational / financial ground and me – on AI technology expertise. Thus, our alliance for almost half a century already adds a lot of psychological confidence and ways of development to us both!”

“I appreciate my friendly meetings with all of them very much—whether over dinners or five o’clock tea, which we try to have regularly, every quarter or so. It gives me great restorative energy in our ever-changing, earth-shaking times,” she adds.

Leadership Begins Within

Elena believes leadership begins within. She describes herself as having a critical mind and believes that every person is created with unique talents and abilities. In her view, education and experience do not create a leader they simply strengthen what already exists inside. As the 18th-century English philosopher John Locke said, “Education begins the gentleman, but reading, good company, and reflection must finish him.” This belief continues to shape her approach to leadership and lifelong learning.

A Legacy of Entrepreneurship

“I want to focus more on my family, especially my mother, who is a serial entrepreneur and built many companies that succeeded in the changing Russian environment after the communist era was over (1985) and the era of business had begun. My grandfather (her father) was a big person in the car factory – in charge of all procurement and supply at the biggest car factory in Moscow. Thus, my mother gained the skills to communicate with supply partners for the best possible conditions, as well as find appropriate niches for sales. She constructed many skyscrapers in the Moscow region, being an important figure in the big construction alliances. My company was in the IT sector, but business is still the same making alliances and partnerships,” Elena emphasizes.

“My son is currently a young fellow and is trying his hand at video creation and blogging. He owns 2 channels in youtube with more than 1 Million (1MIO) subscribers devoted to the game industry and travelling stories. He also has digital media in Telegram for the news in the game industry observed by more than 60K subscribers. His third occupation is scientific research of what Journalism means in the era of AI, about the identity of human journalists and his creative distinguished features from AI. This third side of him which includes scientific background currently takes the lead! I strongly believe that  he needs the same partnership skills to make his products attractive. Of course, times have changed a lot, and with the help of AI, he can create new products with some autonomy,” she adds.

“My current team consists of highly professional people in AI automation in emerging markets, including my son and friends from my time working at the global company ABBYY. All of them have the right skills to bring a certain flavor to our projects, and, when needed, we are guided by Maxim, with his investor background, toward bigger opportunities. For one of our products, we are using AI to help experienced, wise people write their memoirs without tension, guided by AI step by step. Led by Julia we are planning to take that product international in English and Turkish,” Elena reflects.

Transforming Teams with Solidary Support

“One word that defines me? Most probably, ‘solidarity.‘ I believe in the power of joint efforts and shared outcomes rather than individual effort in our complex times,” says Elena.

Thus, Elena is a big fan of creating teams that succeed in business, sport (chess, sport bridge, etc.), and longevity through the principle of solidarity. She loves to develop these teams into powerful assets in corporate business and everyday life, adding emphasis and strength to each person’s unique abilities. Be it:

  • chess or sport bridge teams of 10+ players
  • or development team of 20 IT engineers
  • or corporate teams of 100+ employees in certain function (sales, operation, marketing etc)
  • or distributed partner teams of 1,000+ partners around the world. – it doesn’t matter.

For Elena, the key is finding the right acknowledgment for each member. Leadership is never about asking a fish to climb a tree; rather, it is about recognizing each individual’s strengths as the fifth element and transforming them into collective success.

She is deeply inspired by the work of Michael Tomasello and his theories on human communication. “I am a big fan of Michael Tomasello’s theory (described, for example, in Origins of Human Communication) and believe that every person has a particular skill; when combined together like a good complex puzzle, these skills provide outstanding performance and pleasure in life,” she shares.

Balancing the Seesaw of Work and Life

“My three major ways to escape from brutal reality are: (1) meeting international friends, doing sightseeing, having philosophical talks, and even cooking dumplings! Or (2) going to the park – every morning I do 10,000+ steps, listening to music, looking at nature, and thinking about the universe! Or (3) spending time with my family, my loved ones serene, uncomplicated discussions with my mother; lively conversations with my son about the new era, blogging, football, and sometimes even politics (!); and a philosophical partnership dialogue with my loved one! That brings me back to energy and harmony in our very disruptive and turbulent times,” reflects Elena.

A Glimpse into the Future

In the next two years, Elena is planning to spend more time on scientific research at the university for her PhD degree. Her domain is AI in communication, and it is evolving rapidly through the collaborative efforts and shared thinking of many scientists.

She also wants to be a part of this growing body of human knowledge. The current phase of AI development marks the definitive migration of cybernetic technology from academic theory into mass operational practice. In an era of rapid technological transition, historical optimism must anchor itself not in the mechanical replacement of human agency but in humanistic integration. Reclaiming the universal principles of inquiry and individual human dignity (dignitas hominis) remains the essential condition for ensuring that technological innovations ennoble rather than diminish the human experience.

Golden Words for the Younger Generation Dreaming of Entrepreneurship

As Elena sees it, her advice to the younger generation is to embrace change and understand that we are living in an ever-evolving world. Resisting change is not a sustainable strategy; those who refuse to adapt risk being left behind. As human beings and, as she proudly adds, as women — the admiring part of humanity 🙂 — we must remain adaptable to change, following Charles Darwin’s principle of evolution while embracing solidarity with people and nations, inspired by Michael Tomasello’s principle of cooperation.

Only then will the next era truly emerge, where AI and robots will not replace people but empower them to become more efficient. In Elena’s vision, our planet will continue its journey through the galaxy in harmony, just as it was designed by the Creator of this remarkable game called life.

Let it be!
