NVIDIA Invests $5B in Intel to Build Next-Gen AI Infrastructure and PC Chips

Intel

In a move set to reshape the future of computing, NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to co-develop next-generation AI infrastructure and personal computing products. The partnership blends NVIDIA’s strengths in AI and accelerated computing with Intel’s leadership in CPUs and x86 systems, creating a fusion that promises to drive innovation across hyperscale data centers, enterprise, and consumer markets.

Building the Future of AI and Data Centers

At the core of the collaboration is the integration of NVIDIA NVLink, which will seamlessly connect the two companies’ technologies. Intel will design and manufacture custom x86 CPUs tailored specifically for NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure platforms. These CPUs will then be integrated into NVIDIA’s cutting-edge systems, enhancing performance for data centers tasked with increasingly complex workloads.

This strategy is expected to bolster NVIDIA’s AI offerings while giving Intel a stronger role in shaping next-generation data center solutions. The collaboration represents a direct response to the surging global demand for AI-driven computing power across industries.

Revolutionizing Personal Computing

Beyond the data center, Intel will also introduce x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) that feature NVIDIA RTX GPU chiplets. These new processors are designed for PCs that require the perfect balance of world-class CPU performance and GPU acceleration. From gaming and content creation to enterprise-level AI applications, the x86 RTX SoCs aim to bring cutting-edge computing capabilities directly into the hands of consumers.

NVIDIA’s $5 Billion Investment in Intel

As part of the agreement, NVIDIA will invest $5 billion in Intel’s common stock, acquiring shares at $23.28 each. This investment underscores NVIDIA’s confidence in Intel’s future and its commitment to building a long-term partnership. The deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

Leadership Speaks on the Collaboration

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the significance of the partnership, calling it a milestone moment in the evolution of computing:

“AI is powering a new industrial revolution and reinventing every layer of the computing stack — from silicon to systems to software. This historic collaboration tightly couples NVIDIA’s AI and accelerated computing stack with Intel’s CPUs and the vast x86 ecosystem — a fusion of two world-class platforms.”

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan echoed this sentiment, highlighting Intel’s role as a foundational pillar of modern computing:

“Intel’s x86 architecture has been foundational to modern computing for decades. By combining our leading data center and client computing platforms with NVIDIA’s leadership in AI, we are enabling new breakthroughs for the industry. We are excited about this partnership and the opportunities it opens for our customers and the future of computing.”

Press Conference Details

The CEOs of both companies will host a live webcast press conference today at 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern) to discuss the partnership in more detail. Interested listeners can join the webcast here.
